Gerald McCloy is a child like any other- with only one major difference: instead of talking, the boy can only make sounds such as "boing" and "cuckoo." His impediment causes him much trouble in life, from bewildered parents who have no clue what to do, to unkind peers who both tease and reject him for his odd speech. The boy falls into despair but is saved by a stranger who finds value in his strangeness and hires him to be the sound effects for his radio department. In the end, the boy finds acceptance as well as appreciation for who he is.
